A Key To Prime Health: Sleep

Family life, tight schedules, appointments, work commitments, living in NYC, moving and grooving with the hustle and bustle of the city can be exhilarating and rewarding but draining at the same time. As yogis, we all value the well being of our bodies, physically and emotionally. A very important key to reaching your personal best state of health is sleep. Sleep is important to keep your brain alert and engaged. While you're sleeping, your brain is preparing for the next day. It's forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information. Sleep helps enhance your learning and problem-solving skills. Sleep also helps you pay attention, make decisions, and be creative.

Symptoms of sleep deficiency can be seen immediately or over time. Usually we hear of the danger of sleep deficiency on our physical health, but it can also take a toll on our mental wellbeing. Studies show that sleep deficiency alters activity in some parts of the brain. If you're sleep deficient, you may have trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling your emotions and behavior, and coping with change. Sleep deficiency also has been linked to depression, suicide, and risk-taking behavior.
