Who Loves Yoga? NY Loves Yoga!

April 2015

I am in no sense of the word, a yogi. I don’t know how to breathe deeply, or anything about a warrior 3 and I certainly can’t hold any pose more than 3 seconds without wiggling out of it. So it was a relief when I walked into the warm and welcoming lobby of NY Loves Yoga which is tucked into the quiet tree-lined street of West 83rd between Amsterdam and Columbus Ave.

AMPED UP ASANAS AT NY LOVES YOGA

February 2015

I wanted to title this post, “Yoga on Crack,” but decided that was too harsh for a class that included harmonium chanting and essential oil annointing. Take note: theChakra Flowtastic class at NY Loves Yoga is NOT for beginners. It’s a warm, inviting studio and the teacher, Christine Chen, from California made it her mission to get us warm on one of the coldest days of the year.

Tantric yoga is not a kinky, four-hour sex marathon

January 2015

Lucas Hall wants to take back Tantra. You know, from its kinky, marathon-sex reputation.

Hall, who just added a lineup of Tantra vinyasa yoga to the schedule at NY Loves Yoga on the Upper West Side, is tired of the assumption.

Yoga City NYC - Christine Chen

November 20, 2012

Yoga Sleuth was craving a refreshing flow class, so I headed uptown to NY Loves Yoga for Christine Chen’s Chakra Flow class. I immediately felt warm and surrounded by community when I entered the studio.

Christine welcomed me, checked in with newer students for injuries and chatted about vacations with regulars. Her energy was contagious and I was excited for class!

My Upper West - Christine Chen

November 5th, 2012

Nice gesture by Upper West Side yoga instructor Christine Chen:
She’s donating her earnings from classes at UWS NY Loves Yoga (140 W. 83rd, btw. Amsterdam/Columbus) this week towards the ASPCA’s Sandy relief efforts.
The more people who attend, the more she can give. PepsiCo is doing a 100% donation match, which will double the money raised.

The week after Hurricane Sandy, still heavy hearted after the recent loss of my dog, I pledged a week’s worth of earnings from my classes at NY Loves Yoga to the ASPCA.  The more people came to class, the more I could give.  I saw new people, current students and yogis whom I haven’t seen in awhile.  Then, people also gave through the studio web site.

Testimonials From Our Students

I took the 12:30 pm class today and absolutely loved it! From the ambiance of the studio, to the poses and flow of the class, I felt leaving grounded, accomplished and refreshed. This is a must do for yoga lovers!

I LOVE NY Loves Yoga!

Practiced with the beautiful teacher Von Love in this gorgeous, very zen studio that opens out into a garden that transports you out of NYC.  Very excited to return!  Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Beautiful studio. I loved the natural lighting and hardwood floors. Down to earth students and teacher. I took Laura's 9:30am slow flow class. Her alignment cues were excellent. She was encouraging and helped us to maintain a mindful practice throughout the class.

Pleasant environment and very helpful teacher. I need to try more of the classes.

Very friendly and welcoming. I really enjoyed it.

I had a wonderful experience overall. The class was not too crowded, the teacher was attentive, and the staff at the desk were helpful. I recommend it for sure

Coming in from the cold, the scent and warmth of the studio was wonderful and immediately made me feel more relaxed... I felt the benefits of the practice both physically and mentally, as I left feeling refreshed and happy!

Good experience. Friendly staff. I will go back. Thanks.

NY LOVES YOGA IS THE BEST!!!

It's a really calming environment. Small but cozy. Really nice staff!

I took a beautiful class with a warm, inspiring teacher. It was open level, so I felt challenged but it was also suitable for beginners.

This is not a yoga fancy pants type of studio. This is a family community project that will welcome your warmly and work you mind, body, and soul.

I moved to NYC two years ago. One of my friend brought me to the studio and I just completly fell in love. It's so peacefull. Because it's a small studio it's more intimate and you feel like your part of a familly. I am returning home (Montreal) in two weeks and I'm really sad... The explanations are always easy to follow and she always come up with different poses or movements every class.

Since moving to NY 4 years ago, I've been searching for the right yoga studio. I wanted a space that was laid-back, unpretentious, friendly and serious about yoga.

I'm so glad I finally found NY Loves Yoga. It's your neighborhood yoga studio that feels like a community. ... It's rare to find such a combination in this city.

I love it here, everyone is super nice and helpful. There are tons of classes so if one (or one instructor) is not for you, I'm sure you will find one that is. Classes are very affordable and everyone is down to earth. I could easily pay 3x the price and go to Pure for a spa yoga experience, but i am very happy right here at NYLY

I am a relaxed kind of Type A-ish person. Having practiced yoga since HighSchool, now over a decade later I've been looking for the more pure, less corporatized, trendified version of a yoga studio. And one that is well maintained with love and warmth. After 8 months searching NYC, I did find the right setting to begin my Yoga practice again.

One of the best parts of this studio, besides the very ambient, welcoming, comfortable, yet cozy environment is the variety in the class schedule.

Enjoy the adventure. Hope to meet up with you there.

This studio has a laid-back, chill atmosphere where teachers are open and friendly and willing to work with students of all levels.

The location is also very pretty, with brick walls and warm colors and the garden is absolutely precious (too bad that winter is coming!). Also, as per the studio's policy, the classes are not overcrowded and there are always props available for all students.

If you look for a yoga studio with no attitude to make your body and spirit feel better, look no further. I totally recommend it.
